Building Foundations
(K-5)
Build a strong foundation with phonemic awareness and phonics. Develop decoding skills with sight words and simple words. Improve reading fluency by reading aloud and monitoring accuracy and expression. Use various texts and genres to work on comprehension skills (main ideas, details, predictions and inferences, character, setting, plot, and sequencing events). Help your child to express themself in spoken and written language using basic grammar (the 8 parts of speech). Introduce narratives, informative/explanatory, and opinion/persuasive writings. Improve spelling using strong vocabularly.

Bridging the Gap (6-8)
Begin to articulate a full idea using multimedia and visuals in presentation. Use varied genres to do a literary analysis for theme, tone, mood, symbolism and character development. They can compare and identify text structures, analyze informational text for arguments and bias. Write a five-paragraph essay with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Use a variety of text structures including argumentative, expository, narrative, and research type paper. Develop stronger note taking skills and summarizing skills while citing sources. Have a strong understanding of connotations/denotation, roots, prefixes and suffixes, and grammar mastery of phrases, clauses, and verb tenses.

Creating Your Story (9-12)
Develop your voice. Have a mastery in grammar and syntax. Develop a familiarity with dictation, tone, figurative and rhetorical devices, and a strong vocabulary. Be able to read complex texts to find theme, symbolism, imagery, and figurative language. Similarly, be able to write analytically to incorporate these ideas in creative writing. Develop stronger research papers, argumentative, and analytical essays emphasizing voice and style. Create a revision process and put yourself in the best light with technical and professional writings including reports, proposals, and resumes.
